Oil Painting Workshop - $369
Two days, 12 hour workshop on oil painting fundementals. During the workshop, Professor Kline will reveal her secrets in expressing the beauty and light of the skies. Follow her through the process of expressing this romantic subject in your work.
Cheryl Kline is a classically trained painter who found her voice by painting remarkable skyscapes and cloudscapes. It reflects her love for the untamed, operatic beauty of the heavens, whose gradual yet grand changes reveal themselves to her sensibility. Kline follows an esthetic of deliberate beauty, but her paintings are more than fine praise for the esthetics of nature and light--they become, over time, magnificent statements of a holistic nature, constructions filled with visual recognition of the innate drama of the sky.
Her sky paintings are in galleries and collections all over the country.
About Cheryl Kline’s Sky Painting Workshop
Throughout history, artists have depicted the drama of nature using the sky and clouds to tell a story. One might think of Turner and his dramatic and expressive paintings. During this 2 day workshop, Professor Kline will reveal her secrets in expressing the beauty and light of the skies. Follow her through the process of expressing this romantic subject in your work.
30 minute demonstration of a classical approach. Learn a Renaissance technique to quickly begin your composition without drawing. Students will learn a monochromatic technique and work until lunchtime.
After Lunch we will begin a second painting using a different approach.
30-minute demonstration of constructing a sunset on a gray toned canvas painting “a la prima” (all at once). This approach is a direct painting technique starting with strong colors from the beginning with no under painting. Students will work until the class ends.
Throughout the day there will be more mini demos with the students. This is a fast paced workshop with lots to learn about oil painting.
Teaching painting skills requires skill-building techniques that are too often complicated with other subjects. Focusing on the sky with just a hint of land or sea enables the student to learn essential concepts of painting- transitions and collisions.
We skip a day in-between to allow the paintings to dry. 30-minute demonstration of continuing to build a solid, monochromatic under painting.
Students will learn to mix 7 values using only 2 colors. Brush choice with be discussed as well as painting techniques to achieve believable results. Students continue to work on their painting until Lunchtime.
After Lunch - 30-minute demonstration of glazing techniques using the second painting. Students will learn which colors are transparent and how they effect the under painting to increase the impact of colors. Students continue with their painting until the end of class.
