First we will be visiting the castle and Alfama quarters. Saint George's Castle can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. Its oldest parts date from the 6th century, when it was fortified by the Romans, Visigoths, and eventually the Moors. It served as a Moorish royal residence until Portugal's first king Afonso Henriques captured it in 1147 with the help of northern European crusaders on their way to the Holy Land.

The Competition 2019 will culminate in a weeklong program of activities (called Talent Week) in Lisbon. Pastéis de Nata
Pastéis de nata are delicious egg custard tarts dusted with cinnamon, which are said to have been created in a Belém pastry shop in 1837 by monks who, expelled during a revolution in 1820, began baking to earn money. The pastries became very popular with visitors to the Belém tower, and eventually a small store attached to a sugar refinery began churning them out for the masses. Today dozens, if not hundreds, of pastelarias across Lisbon sell them.

In 1758, one of the first wine-producing region of the world, the Região Demarcada do Dourowas created. Portugal has two wine producing regions protected by UNESCO as World Heritage: the Douro Valley Wine Region (Douro Vinhateiro) and Pico Island Wine Region (Ilha do Pico Vinhateira).
