Food
Pastéis de Nata

Pastéis de nata are delicious egg custard tarts dusted with cinnamon, which are said to have been created in a Belém pastry shop in 1837 by monks who, expelled during a revolution in 1820, began baking to earn money. The pastries became very popular with visitors to the Belém tower, and eventually a small store attached to a sugar refinery began churning them out for the masses. Today dozens, if not hundreds, of pastelarias across Lisbon sell them.

Wine

In 1758, one of the first wine-producing region of the world, the Região Demarcada do Dourowas created. Portugal has two wine producing regions protected by UNESCO as World Heritage: the Douro Valley Wine Region (Douro Vinhateiro) and Pico Island Wine Region (Ilha do Pico Vinhateira).

Vhils is known for carving faces on façades, while Bordalo II creates art from trash.
